Welcome to Jeremiah's Great Adventure!

This blog is a near-daily account of my experiences in the country of the Philippines. To me this is significant because I have never stepped foot outside the USA in my life before. So I have decided to provide my family and close friends a small glimpse of what I do here and what there is to offer here.

So please enjoy my journey through my words and pics , as I get them. And please feel free to comment and ask me questions.

Helping others...

I found this awesome site. Freerice.com. Click the banner below. I also put it in a permanent place on the sidebar to your right, just scroll down. For every question to get right, you help children impoverished nations get the need food they require. Sponsors of the site donate their money to help buy the rice to feed hungry people. VERY awesome...and all we do is play this fun game to do it! If you don't do this simple thing, that can be done at any odd moment out of your day, you hate pandas, babies and breathing air! So there!...but seriously, this is a wonderful way to help while being entertained with a challenging word game...you can even change the category of words used. Great fun and you can learn some new words to befuddle your friends! Mwahahaha! PLAY NOW!

Help end world hunger

All done...for now :P

Well I have just finished my final long day of teacher training and have passed with satisfactory results.

That means I did well enough to warrant a certificate in teaching at my level of competency
Yippee! :D

Now I know the Philippine way to teach. This means I can apply that knowledge to my lessons and do it "by the book" so to speak. But that wont stop me from doing the teaching my own way....I just have to make sure everything is taught to at LEAST those basic standards...I will teach so much more.

Even though it was a relatively small step, it is still a step toward my goals and dreams. Getting closer and closer!

Go me!

Where the Teacher is taught...

Well today was my first day in teaching training...finally! It was a great learning experience..I'm beginning to understand the how and whys of module creation and session plan making. A bit different than I'm used to but at least now I know why its done this way and HOW to do it myself! ....and so I must get one session written in proper module format , as well as create the handout that comes with it. All prepared and ready as if its going to be printed and sent to the students...except this will be added to my portfolio and evaluated at the end of the course (this Friday) .

Yeah its a one week course..chopped down from 2 weeks. Not a biggie and I actually enjoy creating handouts and mas I found out , modules aren't that much different..mostly just cut and pasting into correct format....

Now if I had to make up ALL CONTENT, I'd be in serious trouble...but this isn't about re-creating what has been done a lot, it's about understanding HOW to present and teach the class in proper way as described by TESDA.

So far, so good!...now I need to get back to working on it!

Caio!
